Life, the most valuable and over looked gift we have as humans. From our first breath to our last we try to find a purpose. In Nigeria, education seems like the path to finding our purpose to our parents. Well to my dad, education is the only path. My colleagues and I had mixed feelings in releasing this article, Uistoriesthattouch (Uistt) is a weekly blog (and the Knife man was the post of this week) the nature of this post isn’t something to be laughed about (this is not something like a joking stuvv). But we realized that from our first post we made a promise to bring “real life occurrences that happened to UI students”. Not to offend the gods, this is an emergency post as we lay our tribute.
I really can’t remember how I felt when I got admission into the University of Ibadan but I can remember how my parents felt. The smile on my mum’s face and the pride in my dad’s look. My dad was like a town crier telling everyone that cared to listen how is son has gotten admission into the University of Ibadan. For the six months I stayed at home waiting for resumption I felt fulfilled. Now I know we will all have different stories but the fact still remains the same, joy is derived from the good news of admission.
Hitting the nail on the head, it is with much pain in my heart that I am writing this article (not because I knew the victim but because we don’t have the power to change events that has happened). On the 29th of March 2016 UI lost a lovely rose who hasn’t even blossomed out of the thorns. She was (funny how tenses change with time), Ajayi Iyanuoluwa Marvelous a 100l student of the department of Library Archives and Information Studies (LARIS). She died of ovarian cancer.
Death, the door at the end of the hall way. A reward to those who take the long way towards it and a curse to those who find themselves in the shortcut. We offer our condolences to her parents, siblings and loved ones
RIP AJAYI IYANUOLUWA MARVELOUS
